Orchard IPM Workshops

A series of workshops was held in Washington State in February, 2002, addressing developments in apple and pear integrated pest management programs. The topics covered included the history of tree fruit pest management in the state, new insecticides and their uses in apples and pears, codling moth mating disruption, the performance of commercially available pheromone dispensers, opportunites for biological control in orchards, and the Areawide II orchard IPM demonstration project. Presentations were made by the entomologists of the Washington State University Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center (Drs. Betsy Beers, Jay Brunner, John Dunley and Vince Jones), as well as the coordinator of the Areawide II field program (Ted Alway). The presenters prepared summaries of their talks, which are available as Adobe PDF format files:

  1. IPM in Washington Tree Fruits: Overview and Prehistory, by Dr. Betsy Beers
  2. New Insecticides and Miticides for Apple and Pear IPM, by Drs. Jay Brunner, John Dunley and Betsy Beers
  3. Population Dynamics of Codling Moths Under Mating Disruption, by Dr. Vince Jones
