Orchard IPM Workshops
A series of workshops was held in Washington State in February, 2002, addressing developments
in apple and pear integrated pest management programs. The topics covered included the
history of tree fruit pest management in the state, new insecticides and their uses in
apples and pears, codling moth mating disruption, the performance of commercially available
pheromone dispensers, opportunites for biological control in orchards, and the Areawide II
orchard IPM demonstration project. Presentations were made by the entomologists of the
Washington State University Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center (Drs. Betsy Beers,
Jay Brunner, John Dunley and Vince Jones), as well as the coordinator of the Areawide II
field program (Ted Alway). The presenters prepared summaries of their talks, which are
