Our research in the Peshastin Creek Program falls into
two main categories. The primary focus of our work in the valley
is monitoring pest populations in the pear orchards. We use
these data in combination with data on predatory insect populations,
fruit damage and spray costs to compare the effectiveness of three
types of pest management programs. These programs range
from the more traditional programs of broad-spectrum chemical control
through to Organic programs relying on selective compounds and biological
control.
The
second facet of our research focuses on biological control by
native predatory insects.
