The 83rd annual meeting of the Pacific Branch of the Entomological Society of America will begin with on-site registration Sunday afternoon, June 20, and end with the closing business meeting prior to noon on Wednesday, June 23. The meeting will feature five symposia, submitted papers, posters and other special activities. |
SUBMITTED PAPERS AND POSTERS: |
The Program Committee solicits papers and posters from any area of entomology or related science. To submit a paper or poster, complete the enclosed paper or poster registration form and send it, along with an abstract, to the Program Committee at the address indicated on the form. The deadline for paper or poster submissions is April 23, 1999. |
ABSTRACTS: |
Abstracts are required for all submitted papers, poster displays, and symposium presentations. Please follow the instructions for preparation of abstracts. Note that, as in the past few years, we are asking participants to submit their abstracts as both hard copy and on disk. If you choose to submit your abstract via E-mail please pay attention to the guidelines on length. This year only a limited number of abstracts will be available at the meeting on a first-come, first-served basis. However, abstracts will be posted on the web site at http://entomology.tfrec.wsu.edu/pbesa/index.htm after June 1, 1999, and may be downloaded and printed at your convenience. |
GRADUATE STUDENT PAPER/POSTER CONTEST: |
There will be both oral presentation and poster display competitions. Senior authors must be student members of the Pacific Branch and registered for the meeting. First and second prizes will be awarded for the best 10-minute oral presentations and posters in two categories, one for Masters and one for Ph.D. candidates. Judging will be based on scientific merit, organization, clarity, and format. To enter the student paper/poster contest, complete the enclosed Submitted Paper or Poster Registration Form, marking the appropriate "Student Paper or Poster Contest" line on the form. Be sure to submit an abstract. If you have any questions about this contest, contact the Program Committee at pbesa@tfrec.wsu.edu. |
REGISTRATION: |
Complete and return the enclosed preregistration form with payment by April 23, 1999, to Registration Committee, Pacific Branch ESA, 1100 N. Western Avenue, Wenatchee, WA 98801. Preregistration saves time at the registration desk, saves money and helps us plan for the mixer. The registration fee is $65.00 for active members (including Life Members) who preregister by April 23. Preregistration after April 23 or on-site registration will be $80.00 for active members. The registration fee for students and sustaining members is $20.00. The registration fee for non-members is $75.00 ($90.00 after April 23), and the registration fee for spouses is $25.00. Registration is complementary for honorary and emeritus members and for invited participants from outside the Branch or the profession. |
BRANCH MIXER AND AWARDS LUNCHEON: |
A Pacific Branch Mixer is planned for Monday evening. The mixer provides an opportunity for everyone to meet in a relaxed atmosphere. Entry to the mixer is included in the registration fee. There is a nominal fee of $5.00 for the mixer for non-registered guests. Only a limited number of tickets will be available at the registration desk, and none may be purchased at the door. The Awards and Recognition Luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday noon. The cost is $20.00 (there is no charge for students competing in the poster or paper competition) and, again, only a limited number of tickets will be available at the registration desk and none may be purchased at the door. |
LINNAEAN GAMES: |
Games will be held at Eugene to select a Pacific Branch team to compete at the national meeting. Please contact Jay Brunner at 509-663-8181 ext. 238 (jfb@wsu.edu) or Graduate Student Committee chairperson Jennifer Carder, University of Hawaii, at 808-834-8721 (carder@hawaii.edu) if you have a team that is going to compete. |
PROGRAMS: |
To reduce printing and mailing costs for programs we will make the program available electronically. You will not receive a mailed program unless you specifically request it. This is accomplished by completing the section at the bottom of the preregistration form for ordering a program. Even if you do not preregister, you must send this form if you want to receive a printed program. The program will be provided on the Washington State University Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center web page or via e-mail after June 1, 1999. To request an e-mail version of the program, send a message to pbesa@tfrec.wsu.edu and put "Pacific Branch ESA Program" in the subject line. The Program Committee will accumulate requests and send the program as an attachment after June 1, 1999. To access the program on the web go to http://entomology.tfrec.wsu.edu/pbesa/index.htm and find the Pacific Branch ESA Program, download and print at your convenience. |
