This letter is to encourage you to recognize the accomplishments of your colleagues by nominating them for one of the many awards offered by the Entomological Society of America. Two of these awards, the C.W. Woodworth Award and the John Henry Comstock Award (Pacific Branch ESA Graduate Student Award) will be presented at the Pacific Branch meeting to be held in Eugene, Oregon, on June 20-23, 1999. The nominees from the Pacific Branch for national awards will also be announced at the Pacific Branch meeting. More information about these awards can be found in the back of the ESA Membership Directory and Buyers Guide 1998, pages 197-214, or by visiting the web site http://www.entsoc.org and choosing "About ESA" and "Awards, Honors and Grants." People will not have the opportunity to be considered for these awards if their colleagues do not take time to nominate them. Very often there are no nominations for some of these awards. DEADLINE for all nominations to be received is May 1, 1999. The C.W. Woodworth Award is to recognize, encourage and stimulate outstanding accomplishments in entomology in the geographic region served by the Pacific Branch. The nominee must have made outstanding contribution to entomology within the 10-year period preceding the year in which the award is made. Any member of the Branch (except a member of the Awards Selection Committee) may make a nomination. Any nomination for this award should include the following:
The John Henry Comstock Award is to recognize an outstanding graduate student in entomology in the geographic region served by the Pacific Branch. The student must be pursuing a course leading to a graduate degree with a major in entomology; however, individuals may receive the award providing they have not graduated more than 12 months prior to the award. Applications for ESA membership (student or active) must have been made prior to January 1 of the year the award is made. An active member returning for graduate study is not eligible.
