Codling Moth Resources

The interception of codling moth infested apples during import inspections in Taiwan (2004) lead to stricter requirements for exporting apples to the taiwan market from the pacific region of the US. As a result, a new Systems Approach Work Plan was developed in 2005 to insure only codling moth-free shipments are sent to Taiwan. However, there were two interceptions of codling moth in 2005 season fruit that prompted small revisions to the protocol for sampling orchards and field bins. These revisions were implemented In 2006 which included manditory training for orchard sampling personnel without a pesticide consultant's license, and the addition of a minimum of 150 fruit cut during field bin sampling. The Systems Approach Work Plan and the sampling protocols apply to Washington, Idaho, Oregon and California apple production areas.

The pages listed below give growers, fieldmen, packers and shippers the necessary information for following the guidelines setforth by the new work plan and sampling protocols. Included here are webpage links to the full Work Plan, instructions and forms required for the sampling protocol to prove fruit come from supplying orchards at low risk for codling moth infestation (as required by Sec. 1 of the Work Plan), and codling moth identification information. If you'd rather skip the webpages and download the files directly, links are provided at the bottom of this page for the relevent PDF files.
